Oracle EBS : Setting up Word or Excel as a Viewer Option


The Oracle Application Viewer needs a valid MIME Type that is used by the Browser in order to transfer the Oracle Report Output from Oracle Applications to the browser using FNDWRR.exe and then to a Microsoft Word or Excel

With Browser — Internet Explorer, check the Application MIME Type:

1. Go to START > PROGRAM > WINDOWS EXPLORER.
2. Go to VIEW > OPTIONS > FILE TYPE TAB.
3. Search Down for Microsoft Excel Worksheet.
4. Highlight the Microsoft Excel Worksheet.
5. File Type Details at the Bottom shows Content Type (MIME).
6. Record the MIME Type for the Excel Worksheet(application/vnd.msexcel).
7. Search Down for Microsoft Word Document.
8. Highlight the Microsoft Word Document.
9. File Type Details at the Bottom shows Content Type (MIME).
10. Record the MIME Type for the Word Document (application/msword).

In Oracle Applications, enter a Viewer Option to handle the Word & Excel Application:
1. System Administrator Responsibility
2. INSTALL > VIEWER OPTIONS
3. Create a valid MIME for Word and Excel:

Format Type MIME DESCRIPTION
Text application/msword 11i Word
Text application/vnd.msexcel 11i Excel

4. Save
5. PROFILE > SYSTEM –
6. Check the PROFILE > SYSTEM OPTION – Viewer: Text
(This can be Blank to continue using the TOOLS > COPY FILE function
or it can be set to browser to be able to choose a Viewer Option)
